What's wrong with my AE? Both the 2022 versions and the 2023 versions are lagging terribly

I have a Dell Inspirion 16 Plus and up to a few days ago, I've been able to run after effects without any issues. However, out of the blue during the middle of a project everything started lagging really badly, now I can't play the preview, render, or really do much of anything. I've tried changing my preference settings multiple times, I have a good chunk of space, I've purged my caches and disk space- I'm at my wits end. And what really gets me is that Premiere Pro 2023 and 2023 works just fine, but now attempting to use after effects virtually glitches out my computer.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

There's not a lot of information to go on here, so in addition to what you tried, have you recently updated your GPU driver? If so, try rolling back to the previous one.

Is this just one project or all projects the issue is happening in? If it's just one, could you have a comp or problematic asset that's tanking performance? Try using the new Composition Profiler (https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/composition-profiler.html to see if performance is being hindered in a specific part of your comp.
