Why does adobe after effects constantly crash?

I can't do anything without the software completely freezing or crashing. It is impossible to use. Could there be a reason for this? Sometimes it will just crash on its own without me even clicking anything. It is extremely annoying and I am unable to get anything done. I'm using version 18.4.1

Impossible to say much without proper system information, your preferences for critical stuff like hardware acceleration and caches, possibly contents of projects. Yes, the latest version is buggy as heck, but as with all these things, regardless of the general badness the circumstances for crashes are always specific. If you haven't already also start by straightening out the usual external factors: Update your graphics driver, clean up your harddrive, make sure your user permissions on critical folders are okay.
