Obj files usually have a folder of images & a .mtl file that comes with them. The folder may be called textures, mats or something else.

When imported into AE (or other programs) the model's textures are linked so they can display.

Assuming the materials are currently displaying in AE when you import the model, you would simply have to edit the texture files and save them to have them update in AE.

If they aren't displaying in the first place that is a different issue.
