Hello I am a new user to After Effects. I use AE CC 2017, and whenever I try to preview my clips with the mp3 file/music

the pitch and volume constantly change throughout the preview. Does anyone know a fix to this issue?

Thank you -w

You are probably not waiting for the ram preview to completely render, you probably do not understand how AE renders previews, you do not have Cache before preview selected in the preferences, and, you should not be using compressed audio in any production. The video production standard minimum is 48 kHz 16 Bit PCM and .wav is the most common format. You should convert your MP3 files to a production format to avoid problems. There are some MP3 compression schemes that will work but there are more that won't and it is just not worth the trouble to mess with them.

Hello, Rick.

I have tried using .wav and some other production formats. I also have tried turning on Cache before Preview in preferences. But yet the issue still occurs when playing. I don’t wanna file a bug report just yet, but thank you for the help before.

I'm using a wav and I have the same problem which I've been trying to resolve for an hour now...This was going to be a quick job but quick jobs don't really exist when using Adobe software nowadays.

All my preview render settings are what they should, I've deleted preferences, restarted multiple times and searched the web. Surprise, this is happening to a lot of people!

Sometimes it distorts my audio, sometimes it simply doesn't play it, all with the same settings, very reassuring.

I'm supposed to edit to the audio, plain, basic functionality that should just work.

Now I'm trying to do a real render to gauge where I'm at and I get errors, this has become the daily battle with After Effects, you try to resolve a problem or find a workaround and you uncover exactly how flakey, unstable and frustrating this so-called professional software is.

Give it a couple-three runs through the preview. Observe what happens.

AE does NOT behave like a video editing application in any way, shape or form.  If that's what you expect to get, you are greatly misinformed.

I've been using after effects for 15 years and it used to do this, no problem...

I specialise in video effects synched to music which is impossible to do now unless you have a year to do a 2 min edit

In latest AE CC2020 I can not play back a cached ram preview that was effortless in AE CS6 where I am migrating from. I hope this is a bad joke, as my main task is also visual to music sync. Any idea what's wrong here?

If I disable Preferences > Previews > Audio > Mute Audio when preview is not real-time, then I will NOT get any audio during playing back the preview... no more RAM preview or what???
