When I render ProRes444 out of After Effect as Trillion of colours on a 16bit comp the results are not Trillions of Colours.
Also, it doesn’t matter how I set AFX to render ProRes444 Trillions the results are always millions when I bring the file back into after effects.
I tested it out by rendering a movie of a gradient from pure Green to Red.
A: ProRes444 Trillions of colours in 16bit comp
B: ProRes444 Millions of colours in 16bit comp
C: ProResHQ Trillions of colours in 16bit comp (This one works)
D: DNXHQ 10Bit in 16bit comp (This one also works)
I brought back the movies into after effects and I put a contrast curve so the banding is more apparent. You guys can try it by yourselves.
Any help on how to make AFX render ProRes444 Trillions properly. If not how can I make this an offical bug.
Tx.
David
P.S. I don't want to us DNX as a codec.

We have the same problem. This is a serious bug!!!
This is only a problem on windows. The files is 16bit but is imported in after effects as 8bit.
There is also a problem with the alpha channel not matching what you saw in after effects.
Is it possible to use DNxHD Trillions of colors with support of alpha channel? Do we have another codec?
( prores4444 is the goto codec so this is a BIG problem).
Best regards,
Jakob Eriksen

..Sorry didn't see that you where using mac.
Hmm.. I may have been using after effects 2019 on my mac, so that could be the answer to why my prores4444 files was seen as 16bit.
