Hello,
I was using After effects 2018 15.1.2 (build 69) for a long time and descided that the time for update has come. When i installed the latest AE 2020 17.1.4 (build 37) i was badly surprised. All of my old projects look differently. After some digging i think i may have spoted the problem. So here is a scenario:
1. Load any image in AE 2018 and apply Exposure effect on it,
2. Adjust both exposure and gamma parameters. Save the result.
3. Open the same project in 2020 you will see a different result.
I`ve descided to split the effect to two separe Exposure effects, one carring the exposure adjustment and the other one - gamma adjustment. So now the order of those effects matters. In order to achieve the same visual result in 2018 i had to adjust the exposure value alone in the first (upper) Exposure effect and then the the gamma value in the second one. In AE 2020 in order to get the same visual style i had to reverse the order of those two effects. First adjust the gamma and then the exposure.
It seems to me that the new Exposure effect (the GPU reworked version) applies the effect with different order for exposure/gamma adjustments. Now if i want to open an old project i would have to readjust all exposure effects that i have used so i can get the expected result.
Could anyone confirm that? If that is the case shouldn't the order of calculations be kept the same to for better continuity between versions?
Thanks in advance.

Hi zographicf67777358,
Thanks for the detailed post.
Could you share a screenshot that shows the preview difference between After Effects 2018 and 2020? What's your OS version and GPU driver version? Also, what happens if you switch to Mercury Software Only?
Let us know, we're here to help.
Thanks,
Nishu
