Footage freezes in composition panel/window

Hi!

I'm getting slightly frustrated due to clips freezing in the composition panel/monitor/window. I'll open the project and it will play back fine, then after some time the footage will randomly freeze and leave me with a still. I can scrub through the timeline but nothing will move in the composition panel.

I'm working with ProRes 422 clips.

I've tried different playback resolutions, adaptive resolution, clearing cache, different format clips. Nothing seems to work unfortunately.

Anyone have an idea what could be causing this?

Edit: So it just froze again, this time adding a lovely 'purple vertical flip' effect, short after which After Effects crashed

Thanks!

Ok so I think the problem is fixed now. After having a long call / screen share session with an employee from Adobe I ended up downgrading to After Effects 2018. This seems to have solved the freezing and crashes.

The purple screen is completely new though, usually it just freezes the clip. I have the project set to MPE Software Only but that also doesn't seem to improve the situation.

I am working on a 2018 Mac mini. I don't believe you can manually update the GPU.. it updates with the OS.

Thanks for the help!

I'm still having issues. It is however only with the specific project I mentioned. I haven't had any issues with other projects I've been working on in the meantime.. How could I possibly clean up the file 'make' it corrupt free?

I tried re-rendering the clips in AME to different formats. They all end up glitching and freezing in the composition panel unfortunately. The original files are Apple ProRes. I just reinstalled the entire OS and reinstalled After Effects. No luck..

Nice solution. Why even upgrade to begin with?
I´m getting really sick and tired of the time that I'm loosing with each malfunctioning upgrade.
