imported files slowed down

When I import files into after effects, they are slowed waaaaay down. I've tried watching them two times through thinking maybe it needed to load and it didn't change. So I put the file into my timeline and did time stretch to speed it back up to where it plays normal but when I render it, the speed increases even more. I've cleared my cache and restarted my computer multiple times and nothing will fix it. Any ideas?

...and of course you need to make sure you don't mess up the framerates in the composition, the render settings and so on, either. All basic stuff. You just have to actually read the help, no offense.
