Need Help I am stuck

Guys please help

I am working on a logo following a tutorial.

When I try to increase the brightness value on the project panel by the left, it only affects the white glitched image by the right not the logo by the left. What did I do wrong?

Did I miss something?

I'm sure there must be something to make them work simultaneously which I missed.....

By the way I am still new to After Effects so forgive my ignorance..

Without a ling to the original tutorial we can't tell you what you may have overlooked. However, I would simply assume that you haven't actually assigned the displacement anywhere yet.
