Object Wipe Transition

New Here ,
Jan 05, 2021 Jan 05, 2021

Hi there, I'd like some help with creating an object wipe transition, sort of like an invisible cut.

The vector object moves across the screen revealing the new clip behind it. Currently, I'm just animating the movement of the object and then separately a linear wipe with a strong feather.

Is this something that After Effects can do with Track Mattes or something? I have a bit of experience with AE but can't figure this one out, any help would be much appreciated!!

Also kind of looking for a workflow for this if possible, because of the number of objects I have to do this for! I'm creating the final edit in Premiere.

THANKS!

Well, your current approach sounds as simple as it gets. Unless you need to re-use it a million times there is probably not much point to building a dedicated matte in a pre-comp, as said matte would still require one side to be filled in order to determine the visibility. You'd basically just use a duplicate of your current comp with only the sun and the solid with the linear wipe or mask animation on it and then use that as the matte in the parent comp. Really not much complicated here (unless there is more going on than the screenshot reveals).
