Photoshop Text File in After Effects Won't Work With 'Set Matte' Effect

Hello there! 

I have created a text file in Adobe Photoshop that I wanted to bring into After Effects to create a "melting" effect. I brought the Photoshop files into After Effects and created a composition. Everything was working fine until I used the 'Set Matte' effect on the individual Photoshop layers tha contained text. For some reason, half of the letters are cut off like in the picture below. 

 

Ive attached how it should look from a tutorial, compared to how mine turns out. Any suggestions for this very specific question?
