Hi guys,

Can someone point me to a page were I can get some help. After Effects started crashing on me a few days ago and I am trying to figure out if I need to send my machine to the repair shop or it can be fixed somehow by reinstalling my OS.

This is the error that I get after the crash:

I am curently running After Effects on a:

iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019),

Processor 3,2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7,

Memory 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

Graphics Radeon Pro Vega 20 4 GB

... and I just installed Big Sur an hour ago. After Effects started crashing before installing as I mentioned above a few days ago while working on some animations.

Thanks!

I would never do an OS upgrade in the middle of a project or in the first two or three months of its release unless I had mirrored the boot drive so I could revert to a known working configuration in minutes instead of days. I currently have a backup less than 12 hours old of my entire system, all my footage is on a mirrored raid system that will hold 30TB of footage, and I have a mirrored boot drive that is about 2 weeks old just in case a security update fouls up my system. It takes about 20 minutes for me to replace my current boot drive from the clone, but it would take about 2 days to re-install from scratch.

At this point. your best option is to uninstall all 3rd party plugins and scripts, use the Adobe Cleaner tool to clean out all Adobe Apps, make sure that everything Adobe is cleaned out, make sure that you don't have any suspicious 3rd party software installed, and then try a clean install of AE. If that doesn't work you'll have to go through the pain of a clean install of the previous working version of your OS. There's not much else you can do.

In the future, get you a high-quality external drive, or better yet, a pair of them, and clone your boot drive. There are several inexpensive software solutions that will do that. When you get everything working, make a bootable clone of your main boot drive, copy it, then if you have further problems you can either just boot to the clone or restore your boot drive in just a few minutes.

Hi Rick,

Thank you for your suggestions. I have already tried to install a clean After Effects but I still have the issue. Went even further and  re istalled the hole Adobe Creative Suite because while trying to do some changes to a Photoshop file my computer crashed.

I did managed to do a few more tests with a few Sketch files and also run a heavely graphic multiplayer online game to rule out the possibility of my computer overheating.  My computer didn't restarted so my guess is Adobe Creative Suite is the culprit.

I will try to reinstall the suite again and hope for the best. I think I mentioned in my previous message that the iMac started to restart prior to my Big Sur update.

Also please excuse my inconsistencies writing in English, it is not my native language.
