So, I need to rotobrush dark clip. It is very hard to see where are the borders of objects which I need to rotobrush. So, I place effect "Brightness & Contracts" and now I can see everything, but after I click with rotobrush tool on the footage - "Brightness & Contracts" effects is no longer applied on the clip....
but it  says that it is still active on effects panel...

  • Duplicate the layer you want to Rotobrush (mask)
  • Apply color corrections to the duplicate layer on top of the original
  • Pre-compose the top copy of the layer that has been color corrected making sure to move all attributes to the new layer
  • Change to the Paint Workspace because it's more efficient for Paint and Rotobrush
  • Select the Pre-comp in the timeline and go to Layer>Open Layer in the menu
  • Apply Rotobrush to the Pre-comp in the Layer Panel
  • Freeze RotobrushReturn to the original workspace, select the original footage, make sure that the Modes column is visible in the timeline, and set the pre-comp (rotobrush layer) as an Alpha track matte for the original footage

I use this workflow all the time for Rotobrush, Camera Tracking, Motion Tracking, Tracking in Mocha AE. I also apply the track matte (Rotobrush layer) to other layers using Set Matte. It is a very standard workflow to enhance footage for tracking and masking, Pre-compose, then use the masked pre-comp as a matte source for other layers.

Normal behavior. If you need to color correct the footage so that Rotobrush has some detail to work with then you need to pre-compose. Simple as that. I do it all the time.
