Splitting video layer

Hi,

I have a question regarding splitting the video layer.

I have opened a video I need to split in a new composition and cut the layer with ctrl+shift+d into the part I only need and then I also modified the work area to only show the split part. I copied it in the main composition where I work but as you can see the pasted layer is taking a lot of space in the timeline. What am I doing wrong and why is it not like the cut layer to which I'm pointing with the arrow?

Thank you!

Nothing wrong. That's simply how AE works - it shows the remainder of the source footage as a ghosted track. There is no such thing as "real cutting" in AE.

Exactly, as Mylenium pointed here, it's just the way AE works 😉

Welcome to AE world! 😉
