Hello there,

I am exporting a 35 minute long video from After Effects, it's simply an audio spectrum with nothing added to it. When I first exported it a couple of days ago, it was only around 250mb, but now it says it will be around 2700mb to export it again. I can't remember exactly what settings I might have changed to cause this, but I did fiddle around a bit. How do you think this has happened and do you think it's possible for me to reduce the file size again? I've attached the currently exported version that is less than 300mb and the one I want to export that is over 2700mb.

Many thanks,

Ben

Is the video you have exported before exactly the same video? The same resolution?

High quality half an hour video in FullHD can easily be 2-3GB unless you compress it more.

Chances are you used e.g. the Quicktime Animation CoDec or an RLE compressed AVI. Run-length compression algorithms are highly efficient for stuff with limited color palettes. Otherwise for regular MP4/ H.264 the values would be higher as already pointed out. Depending on what your use case is, though, it's not an issue. YouTube et al will convert it either way. You only save on the upload bandwidth, if at all.
