Viewing Layers

Hello! I am very new to After Effects and I am having some problems that I cannot seem to find the answers for.  My main one is the inability to see both of the clips in my composition play over each other.  In AE, if I click on the Comp button, I am able to (I have added all of my masks and everything) but when I go to export, it only exports one of the clips from the project.  I'm sure its a simple fix, but I've been trying to figure it out for over a week with no luck.  Thank you for any advice!
