I get this same set of entries on the log file if I run the installer file as Administrator or as a common user.

[2012-04-21:15:58:13] Runtime Installer begin with version 3.2.0.2070 on Windows 7 x86

[2012-04-21:15:58:13] Commandline is:

[2012-04-21:15:58:13] No installed runtime detected

Any ideas?

I haven't seen this log before.  Could you try the following?

1. Download the latest AIR runtime from http://get.adobe.com/air to the root of your C: drive

2. Go to the start menu and type in "cmd"

3. Right click on the "cmd.exe" entry in the start menu and select "run as administrator"

4. In the command prompt, type "cd \".  This should have you in "C:\" now.

5. Type "AdobeAIRInstaller.exe"

If I try to download Air to the C:/, I get an error message that I do not have permission to save anything to this location. I switched to the administrator account and tried downloading and saving it the C:/ but Adobe would not even start the download.

I switched back to my main account and downloaded to my User/Ed directory. I tried to run it from CMD, but it would not launch. I tried running it from Windows Explorer by right-clicking on the file name and selecting Run as Administrator. No response.

Is this a problem with my new computer or with Air?

This doesn't sound normal at all.  However, you will want your user account to be an "administrator" level to install AIR.  But selecting "run as administrator" should have done that.  Are you having problems installing any other applications?

No problems with installing other programs, but the system is locking various data files and folders that I downloaded from Carbonite. In a few cases, it does not even have "Ed" or "Ed Administrator" listed as a permissible user when I try to change the security settings on the file or folder.

It sounds like you are having OS file and folder permission issues.  You might want to try creating a new, temporary admin account and seeing if this occurs with the new user too.

So I just had the exact same issue, I had the game League of Legends refusing to start as it depends on Adobe AIR and also had shockwave flash refusing to work, I managed to re-install flash easy enough, but the installer for Adobe AIR wouldn't do anything, it'd just lay in the background as a process not doing anything. The AIR installer log would always print the same few lines as you have, and then stop, nothing more.

SOLUTION: After 5 hours of frustration I coincidentally analyzed process wait time in the task manager, and it would show me that one Adobe AIR process waited for another process with the same name, and this other AIR process was waiting for a windows process by the name of "svchost.exe", I then asked this process to terminate (a little bit scared as these tend to make the computer shut down, but I was desperate). After a few seconds the Adobe AIR installer just popped up out of nowhere like there hadn't been a problem at all.

Finally, I have found the solution: just install Adobe Air from another windows administrator account and it works!

Hi Ajay,

Did you tried installing Adobe AIR using administrator account. You can also log off/ log on again and then try in case if some thread is waiting on windows process/resources.

Thanks
