Unable to Install Adobe Air 2.0 on Windows Vista

I have been having trouble with Adobe Air for a while now. I had Adobe Air installed for TweetDeck, but in the past couple months, every time I tried to update TweetDeck, I get the error, "Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator." Then I tried uninstalling Adobe Air through Add/Remove programs in Control Panel and that did not work. I tried uninstalling through Command Line, but I kept getting a fail message. Finally, I removed it manually by removing the Adobe Air folder from my Common Files and then was able to remove Adobe Air from Add/Remove Programs. Now I am trying to reinstall Adobe Air 2.0 and I am getting the same error message. "An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator." Your Support page says to use Windows Installer Cleanup Utility but it is no longer available. Please help.

I have the same issue with AIR on an XP machine. I look forward to a solution.

One thing to try is to download the AIR 2 installer, open a command prompt window (Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt), and run the AIR installer with the '-uninstall' argument. (Eg. c:\>"Adobe AIR Installer.exe" -uninstall). Once that completes, try running the installer again by double-clicking on the icon.

Try looking at the install log during the install and paste here what is in the log. See

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403150.html#main_how_create_log_file_air_install for details on how to find the install log for AIR 2.

I have the same issue and looked up the log file and here is the snapshot. I tried with my user, administrator etc. Machine is Vista.Upgrading 1.5 to 2.0.

Using the installer clean up tool fixed it for me. After I used it to uninstall the previous version of AIR the

new version installed without a hitch.

I have the same problem also in combination with EA Downloads Manager and Adobe Air on a windows vista ulitmate 32 bit system.

Installation of Adobe Air hangs - screenshot ( I waited 24 hours then killed it with task manager)

There is no error message displayed.

I deinstalled both progams, EA downloader and Adobe Air. Then I tried to reinstall adobe air manually, also this installation of Adobe Air does not work.

It is same as written before (screenshot).

The logfile entries stop always at "starting elevated install"

I'm having the same problem. Installing Adobe Air 2.0.3.13070 downloaded Sept 9, 2010 from Adobe site. Ran as administrator.

Installer showed the black rectangle, I agreed to terms, it said "Installing". 10 minutes later it still said "Installing". No change in progress bar. After 15 more minutes no change. Installer was not using any noticeable amount of CPU. I clicked "Cancel". Now, in the 40 minutes it took to find this forum, try to create an account, reset my password, come up with a new user name, enter my address and preferences several times, enter my e-mail and update my Adobe ID even though I didn't want to, it was for some reason required to re-enter all that to get past the first login screen.... the Cancel progress bar has not changed. I'll kill the task, uninstall the damage with Revo if possible, and wait for a response here before I try anything else. I'm sure it would be easier to not worry about Adobe Air, after all, it's only adding more security holes but some of the apps look very useful. I hope Adobe finds an answer, I think a lot of people use Vista and few of them would try this hard to get help.

I'm running Vista Home Premium, MS Security Essentials, firewall is Online Armor. I just installed newest Adobe Flash plugins for Firefox and IE after Firefox's emergency warning last night. When, O When, Adobe, will you get it right?

I'm sorry you've run into a problem with the runtime installer hanging on you. Can you post the contents of the installer log so we can take a look? The log can be found at:

Windows Vista / Windows 7: C:\Users\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\AIR\logs (You must "show hidden files and folders" in View settings on your OS to see certain folders.)

My issue resolved itself. I don't know how, but Adobe Air works now.

Chris, I sent a more detailed message and the log file in a reply to the e-mail that told me about your response.

Summary: it looks like everything works EXCEPT the installer never tells me it's done, and Cancel doesn't.

Same goes for the installer (.air file) for "iroha Note", an AIR application I tried to install. Installer window looks the same for both programs, hopefully the "finished" notification is the only bug.

I am also having trouble installing 2.0

I Click the download now button.. and the

Adobe Air Installer exe. Pops up at the bottom

of my Browser. ( Google Chrome ) . But once i

Try to open it.. As Administrator or Eaither Click

"Run" It asks me to " Open With " I used EVERYTHING

and nothing worked at all..

I need Serious Help Please and Thank You.

Hi Paul,

Can you try downloading the latest runtime at http://get.adobe.com/air? This should save a file on your hard drive named AdobeAIRInstaller.exe, from there you should be able to double click it to start the install process. This is a windows executable file, so if windows pops a dialog up asking you which program you want to "open with" then something went wrong with the download process. Please let me know if this helps.

I did That already and it dont work..

it keeps asking to "Open With"

and i chosen everything on the

"Open With " List and still Would not

Work.

Sorry, Chris is out from his work right now. Do you mean you can't locate AdobeAIRInstaller.exe on your download folder? What is your OS and browse to download Adobe AIR runtime?
