Just updating this thread as I've just encountered this problem and someone else may search here in future.

I tried the build in Flash Pro cc 2014 and 2015 and got this error when trying to publish and deploy to a device

The cause for me seemed to be that I had icon files referenced in the "included files" (on the Deployment tab) which were also listed in the icons tab). Historic reasons for this (when you couldn't add particular icons in Flash Pro that were required for a version of iOS you added them in the included files list etc).

My guess is they get moved as part of the build process and then can't be found when they are encountered a 2nd time (as they've been moved)?

Anyhow - I tested by having an icon file listed in 2 places again and got the error again. So it was the cause of this error in my case.

Couple of years later and I had this error too. In my case I had added recent iPad Pro icons and splash screens. The icons seem to be ok (I only have them listed in the icon tab, not the general tab), the offending item is the iPad Pro splash screen.

All my existing splash screens show a root level path, and the new splash screen shows a relative path. Removing it stops the error.

I don't see an easy way to edit it to be the full path. But I read that it can pick up the regular iPad splash screen anyway (or vice versa), so maybe it was the name for the file that I had used that was the real problem.

Just got stuck on this one myself

Why does Animate always give such cryptic error messages!? Other IDEs are so much better when building AIR apps.
