As part of a larger, cartoon-style animation, I need to open a door with a piece of text on it. This seemed the perfect place for a 3D tween.
I created an object "Door" - a simple rectangle with a cross and the word 'doctor' on it.
I placed this object in another object - "Door Opens" - and use the 3D rotation tool - and a motion tween - to open it with the correct perspective. Great.
When viewed on my main timeline, from within Animate, everything looks fine. Here's what it's supposed to look like:
Here's what it looks like when previewed from the main timeline, within Animate:
However, if I export the video as a SWF or MOV file, the 3D motion is totally munged up.
Interestingly, if I double-click through from the main timeline to edit the "Door Opens" object in place, it looks fine (see above). However, if I edit the same object directly from the Library panel, the 3D rotation is completely wrong in yet another way.
WUT??? Any thoughts?
Hi.
I recreated your example and everything is working fine within Animate, when exported to SWF, and MOV.
About editing from the Library, this weird perspective is because the object isn't yet an instance of the stage so you don't have the same position and origin of the one you already added to the stage.
Please see if this simple example is what you are looking for:
animate_cc_3d_door.zip - Google Drive .

Thanks for your reply. Yes, your example is what I'm looking to do. What I don't understand is why, sometimes, it doesn't work.
Here is my animation, with everything stripped out except for the door. Can you tell me why this doesn't work exactly the same way your example works? Why does it work in preview, but not in SWF?
I don't understand your comment about editing the symbol directly from the library. Why would the position and origin on the stage make any difference? Does the symbol use the global origin? What if I wanted to make a hallway, with three doors opening? Would I need three completely different symbols?

I think that you one happens to look like it's working in the timeline because it just happens to be at the right angle. If you go to frame 15 of the main timeline, then drag your door left and right, you'll see that off to the sides the door isn't in the right position.
In JC's version he has the 3D rotation point at 87, 0, 0, which means that the Y rotation he applied is based on the middle right of the door, and so it only needs a Y rotation to get the effect. In yours the rotation point is in the center of the door, and it changes over time.
If you started again, and before you add the tween use the 3D tool and select the door, then drag the white circle in the center of the door, over to the right of the door, you can add a Y rotation keyframe at the end of the tween, and the door should rotate ok. Then on the main timeline you can put the door anywhere, and it should open correctly. Each door will look different because the stage itself does have perspective, doors to the left will seem to open less than doors to the right.

Sorry, guys. I've been sick - I didn't mean to disappear. Thanks so much for your input and insights.
