When trying to edit bones they mysteriously disappear. The rig still works it's just that you can't see the bones any more. If you click around the area it should be in you can select a bone eventually. Once selected I tried checking and un checking the hide box to no avail. I also tried by selecting the whole armature by clicking on a single pose and in the timeline then in the properties window trying to change the style but this had no affect either. You need to see the bone to really edit the constraints and other factors so it's very annoying.
Here's the thing it's not the file. I just tried opening it on a different computer and no problem. So I now suspect that it's an issue with how much ram or the operating system or some hardware related issue.

More testing reveals I can reset the settings by quitting the program and restarting and all bones reappear. However the moment I select the free transform tool all the bones go into hiding mode again and wont come back until I quit and restart. I'm not sure if selecting any other tool has the same effect just yet. I tried resetting the permissions which did the same thing as quitting.

I wonder if this is a RAM and/or video card related issue.

Yes that makes sense as I had a related issue with Aftereffects previously which turned out to be related to the video card. I'll go get that checked out with my tech dept.
