Cannot convert animation into a Symbol in Animate CC

I have converted an animation of a horse walkcycle into a movieclip Symbol. The new symbol of the animation plays when it is inside the Library, but when I drag it onto the stage, it won't play. It just sits stays as a static symbol. Does anyone have any advice? I am using Animate version 19.2.1 on an iMac OSX 10.14.6. The layers in the animation are parented to each other. The artwork is imported from Photoshop.

Thanks for any help.

As you know, Animate has an feature called the main timeline. The main timeline allows you to organize/control symbols.
When you create a symbol, such as a MovieClip, it has its own timeline which also allows you to organize/control symbols.

When you're playing/scrubbing any timeline, Animate will only display the instance of the symbol and not the contents of what's inside of the symbol.

Therefore, if you want to see your animation you will have to go inside of your MovieClip by double clicking it on the Stage and play its timeline from there.

Never use a Movie Clip if you can use a Graphic Symbol. Set the Graphic to Loop if you need to display a cycle.
