Changing fill colors in Animate is hard to do when the selection creates a halftone dot pattern?

In Adobe Animate, if you select a fill color to try to change it, the selection is filled with a pattern of halftone dots, meaning I would need to deselect to see if the color looks okay, and repeat. Is there a way to remove these halftone dots from fill selections? Thank you.
