Copy/paste keyframe creating new animation span - don't want this....

Hi there,

Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I am trying to copy and paste my first frame and place it at the end of my animation span. So my animation returns back to its orginal pose after other poses.  When I paste, it creates a new animation span, which is not what I am after. Appreciate some help. Thank you.

Hi, instead of using Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V try copy-pasting with Alt/Cmd + Drag.

Hi Mario,

I was using the Alt/Cmd and also the right-click "copy frame", "paste frame". I have attached a screen recording to illustrate what I have been doing:

  • Firstly, I Cmd/Alt C, the first frame, and Cmd/Alt V the frame I want to paste in. Animate generates an animation span but creates a new span for the pasted keyframe.
  • Secondly, I use the right-click "copy frame", "paste frame". The same thing happens.
  • Thirdly, I enter in a couple of keyframes with different poses to show how between the second last keyframe and last keyframe, there isn't animation due to the span splitting.

Hope this makes sense:)

It looks like your first frame already has a motion tween on it. Assuming it does, go to the last frame and select the cell there, then type F6, to make a new keyframe. That keyframe will have the character in the same pose as the first frame. Then you can start changing the frames in between, and the animation will return to the starting pose.

If it doesn't have a motion tween, do your copy and paste like you did already, then select the frames from frame 1 to the frame you pasted into, right-click in the middle of the run, and choose Create Motion Tween.

My bad, seems the duplicate shortcut on Mac is Option + Drag.

What this means is that while holding the Option key you have to drag the keyframe with your mouse, doing so will create a duplicate of that keyframe.

  • Extend the frame span first, you can do that with F5.
  • Make your in-between poses.
  • Once done click your first keyframe while holding down the Option key and drag it to the end of the span, the tween will continue without breaking.

I made a quick video just in case.
