Hi,
This is a question about copyright on sounds from an old Flash sound library.
In some ways this is probably more a question for Macromedia than Adobe, but I can't ask them, and I imagine that Adobe has inherited Macromedia's intellectual property, so...
There is a sound in an old Flash sound library called soundLib.fla, which I have a copy of. It is probably from Flash MX or earlier. I probably obtained it from the university I was teaching at, though I can't remember if I owned a copy of Flash back then or just used the university's resources. I kept it as a teaching resource because subsequent versions of Flash didn't include the sound library.
My query: I am curious as to the copyright status of the sounds in that library. There is one, Bucket Hit, that I would like to use in an animated artwork and am not sure if the sounds would be public domain or have a freely usable licence, or be more restricted, and want to at least try to find out before I decide whether to use it in the finished animation or not.
I've searched the internet for similar sounds that I can use (both freeware and paid) but haven't yet found one that is quite what I want.
Regards,
John

Audition and other programs come with a huge library of sounds, and as far as I know if you paid for the program those are royalty free.
I would go for it, but also bear in mind that I'm not a lawyer for Adobe.

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the reply.
If I was just using for private purposes I would just go ahead and use the sound. However, if an institution, like a state art gallery, want to buy or exhibit my work, then they are going to want to know that I have appropriate copyright permissions for everything in the work. "Probably" just won't be good enough for them.
So I am hoping that someone out there has a more definitive answer.
Cheers,
John

I have posted a question in the Animate prerelease forum. Either someone on the Animate team, or another old timer like me, will have an idea about it.

Hi Colin,
Many thanks.
Am I able to see that forum or does it have restricted access?
I've had a look for it but can't find it in the list of forums on the Animate CC page or anywhere else.
Cheers

It's restricted. Not impossible to join though! The Animate team like having testers who can try out features that most people don't use.
Adobe is closed this week, but I'm not sure if that includes the engineering team in India.

Hi Colin,
I assume Adobe have been back for a week or more now, and still no response to your post to the Animate prerelease forum.
Any chance you could re-post to see if draws any responses now?
Regards,
John

I did ask again, and no reply. As you may realize there is a lot of discussions about the future of Animate if Flash Player plugin goes away in 3 1/2 years.

Hi Colin,
Thanks for trying. Yes, I've seen some of the discussion about the EOL for the Flash Player.
rezun8, thanks for response.
And Preran, if you would reach out to some of your team that would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
John

Licenses state that educational software cannot be used for profit or in any other non-educational setting. (I know this as I used to be an IT Admin for an art school). so my guess would be that this still stands. The warning is usually posted on both the software box (back in the day) the CD and the splash screen during start-up. Now given its been a number of years I wonder if there is a time limit for the sound and its usage.
Overall pretty interesting question!
