Creating a feathered mask?

Community Beginner ,

I want to create a mask with a feathered edge. I'm creating a sort of x-ray project, and I've got it set up so you can use the mask, and it moves around with your mouse, but I want the edges of the mask to be feathered, not solid. How do I do this?
