Document Settings Crashed Animate...?

Hello!

I just installed Animate to try to start learning puppet animation, and I'm running into a couple of problems... the first is, whenever I draw a line on the stage, the line immeiately disappears? I can highlight it and change its color, but the moment I de-select it, it turns invisble again. So, I figure that I'll check the document settings to see if something there will be the fix, but when I attempt to go into my document settings, the entire program freezes. This... is not a great start. Any advice on how to get around both of these issues will be much appreciated. Thank you!

Update- I figured out why my lines weren't appearing, crisis averted there at least. I still don't know whats going on with the document settings thing, though.
