Drawing does not appear in editing when turned into symbol

I have a problem when it comes to making symbols. After I've drawn what I want to make a symbol and go to make it, it does not appear in the editing screen. I don't want to redraw what I've already drawn and its a little bit more difficult with the background being white instead of transparent to show the main timeline. Any way to fix it?

Not exactly sure of your problem. I always create stuff on the main timeline and then make sure you select ALL of the artwork.... then press F8 or Modify>Convert to Symbol.

Another way of making sure that all of your art is selected is to click the keyframe which in turns selects all the contents of your art. Otherwise if you just click a line.. only that one line will be selected and that will be the only thing being converted to a symbol.

hope that helps,
