First things: reading data from tables

I'm a vb.net programmer, and I find the graphic capabilites of the language quite poor. I need to give some animation to a couple of basic elements and I'm wondering if Flash + ActionScript is the solution I'm looking for.

I need Flash to read some basic information (size, direction, location) from txt or csv tables in real time (every 5 or 10 secs) and I don't know where to start from.

I'd appreciate some advice.

Flash can do what you describe you are looking for.  You would do better to start with Actionscript 3 (AS3) instead of dipping back to AS1/ AS2, but you can go that route as well.
