How do I add typographer's quotes in Animate? In Windows if I use the alt key it’s ineffective, Animate just types the alt code literally (eg 0146). There is obviously no glyphs panel. What are we supposed to do?
The Alt+numpad method used to work fine in Flash for Windows, but is broken in Animate. A few versions ago they fixed it not working in the Actions window, but it still doesn't work in the Text tool, where it's needed most. I've reported it, but the more reports the better for something fundamental like this that really should be working.
For reference, some of the most commonly useful codes:
Alt+0145: open single quote
Alt+0146: close single quote
Alt+0147: open double quote
Alt+0148: close double q

Hi.
Copy the character from somewhere else (text editor, OS character map, even here) and paste in Animate.

Yes thanks, that is what I already did. Very unsatisfactory. I thought surely not. I did not think Adobe would be so primitive and clunky.

Windows has a way to enter a curly quotes, with Alt and a number. It's easier on Mac, where you just use a modifier key. Here's an article on how to get the various keys:

Just read what you said more carefully! I'll try in Windows, see what happens. If the Alt method doesn't work that's a bug that should be reported:

It seems you need a keyboard with numeric keypad and a num lock key. I happened to have one to try. I first wanted to test what it's like in other programs, and found that trying Alt+0147 in Adobe XD would lock up Windows 10 for a while. I tried in the location field of the Edge browser, but it was too small to be sure if it was curly.
So I headed over to Animate, and made a huge textfield. Sure enough, Alt+0147 just puts 0147 into the field. But, strangely even, using the keys in the Actions panel works fine.
I went ahead and submitted a bug report.

Kind of silly that this is a thing.
