how to open symbol timeline

I read that you are supposed to be able to open a timeline in symbols independent of the main one, to help make looping animations and whatnot. Just how do I open this timeline? I'm pretty new and could not find any information on how to use this feature.

You just double-click it. Had you not tried that?

Turns out I might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, yea that worked.
