how to use mouseX on a movie

Community Beginner ,

I want to apply "something.x=mouseX;" to a function so that I can control the flow of frames of an MP4 with the mouse. For example, when I drag the 160 frame movie onto the actionscript3 canvas and write the function, the mouse moves the whole screen along the x-axis while the movie is being played. I want the screen to stay in the same place while I control the flow of the movie with the mouse......how do I do this?.....thanks in advance

are you trying to control an mp4 being played in an flvplayback component, or are you trying to control the x property of a movieclip that's on-stage, or are you trying to control which frame of the main timeline displays or something else?

Hi and thank you for the response.....I've now moved to slider technology so the idea of mouseX is obsolete......but to answer your question I was trying to get mouseX to work in the same way that a slider bar does, allowing the viewer of an MP4 movie on YouTube for example, to hasten along the flow of the movie or reverse it as desired to study its full content.
