Why does a 1920x1080 jpeg land half way down a 1920x1080 stage when I import it to stage? I'm pretty sure its a bug as I closed out and restarted when I encountered it earlier, and that fixed it. Now it's back again....any ideas?

If you have a 1920x1080 stage, and you import a 1920x1080 JPG, it will be placed at 0,0, and so fit the stage. But, I do see images that are not stage size being imported not at 0,0, so I'm not sure what controls it.
If you select it and use the align tools, does it go into the right place? Can you post an example JPEG somewhere that we could try, in case there's something about the image that is important?

To demonstrate, I imported an image to each of three blank keyframes. In the first, the stage was at default size. The importation aligned automatically as indicated by the upper left corner. For the second I ctl- downsized the stage for full view without using the scroll bars and it also aligned automatically. But for the third I brought the stage to medium size and centered it with the scroll bars.....the alignment was way off as you can see.

It's hard to tell what is wrong from the screenshots.
Would you be able to put an FLA and an example external picture, in a zip file, then submit a bug report? That way Adobe can follow your instructions and hopefully get the same results.
If you can do that, go to this page to start:
Feature Request/Bug Report Form
For now, can you select the image and use the Align panel, to make it be centered on the stage?

Hi Colin:
I reproduced the bug with a new .fla and new jpegs and filled out the Bug Report Form....however there is no provision for attaching the files for tech to review them.....at the end of the report I mentioned that there is no ATTACH button anywhere and for them to contact me so I can send the files to them for direct association with the Form....hope this is satisfactory. The files are only <800KB....
I don't have any problem snapping the misaligned importations to the top of the stage....it's just more work and some of my animations have 100 or so frames, each of which might need snapping....
thanks for you help...Joe

Can you paste the bug number here? Pretty sure that when people add notes they can add files too. Worse case you should be able to look for the email from Adobe, go and look at your own bug report, and see if there is an add file there.

I don't recall a bug number designated to my report as I exited the form page. And I haven't received an acknowledgement email to that effect yet......and I don't see where in the Animate CC website that I can view my Bug Report history either.....it's the weekend now, shall we wait until Monday to see if tech responds....I noted in the report that there was no provision on the Bug Form for attaching an .fla and jpegs that demonstrate this bug, and if tech needs them they will have to give me an email address to send them to.....they should respond Monday I would think..

reviewing the screen captures I posted above, the bug they expose is identical to the fresh .fla I made for the Bug Report. The bug appears when I use the scroll bars to move the stage to the center. Notice that the whitespace is centered, but the black outline is lower than the upper perimeter of the stage by about 1/3 the height of the stage. The black outline is a square I drew around the 1920x1080 workspace in Corel so that the entire workspace would be exported instead of an autocropped copy that trims the exportation down to bare minimum, stopping at the first X and Y pixel encountered. Follow? The consequence of the bug is thus fully elucidated, now all we need is the causal glitch in the program.
