Inconsistent / Uneven Kerning Text in Adobe Animate

I'm working on a set of html5 ads that use the font "Calluna" (OTF, Adobe fonts) and the kerning is weird around certain letters (a, e, l,  etc.) but not others. Checking / un-checking auto-kern does nothing, font works perfectly fine in indesign and illustrator. Any suggestions? Never seen this before, totally lost.

p.p.s. i assume you added the font some other way via adobe's website or the cc desktop app.
