Is it possible to force-close Animate without Task Manager?

Adobe Animate is the most unstable piece of software I have had the pleasure of using and I was wondering if when it crashes, it is possible to force-close it (without having access to Task Manager) rather than have it hang indefinitely?

you can wait for windows to detect it's hanging and click cancel when prompted for a solution.
test to see if you have corrupt preferences causing the crashes. to reset your preferences -

(or remove Win: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Animate CC 2017\ and
C\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Animate\2017\
Mac: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Animate CC 2017/ and
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Animate/2017/)

Windows just pales Animate after choosing to close it and doesn't get anywhere. Using effectively a fresh install does not resolve the crashes. Mostly they happen when choosing to test the current scene which seems to have about a 1 in 10 chance of actually working.

did you reset your preferences successfully.

I haven't reset them per se, but have tried using Animate on a system which will have the default preferences with similar results. The only difference is it offers a debugging option designed for software developers.
