Layer not exported/rendered in animate

At the moment I'm quite frustrated with some "features" of animate. First I had to learn, that motionguided layers wont get exported at all - converting to keyframes fixed the problem, but in my eyes isn't a very production-friendly solution. Then I realized, that some layers (not hidden, guided or anything else) wont get exported as well. In my case, I have a layer called "fader" which is simply a graphic-symbol of a white box fading from an alpha of 0  to 100. In the final export this layer isn't taken into account at all. Renaming (because I read somewhere that animate has "problems" with some keywords used as layer-names) didn't do anything good as well.

Nonetheless I'd be very thankful for any suggestions, that could possibly help me out.

Are those alpha fades classic tweens applied to the symbol itself or frame effects?

My only guess is that some are frame effects (and buggy), while others are symbol effects and work fine.

Frame effects can be identified by the white dot at the keyframe in the timeline.

Because it's client-work I unfortunately can't share the file with you, but let me try to explain the problem a bit further. The whole project is separated into small scenes, each starting and ending with a fade-in/fade-out. The "fader" is just a plain white box nested in a symbol. The symbol's alpha property is than tweened over a span of 20 frames. So far, so basic.

In some scenes the fades just work as they should while in others the fade doesn't get exported at all.

Hey Nick, thank you for your reply. I created my animation by setting the keyframes, creating a classic-tween and changing the alpha-property to zero. The keyframe-color with the changed alpha was set to white. Is there another way to create an alpha-animation? Can't remember having such issues with the good old flash...

Ok, so there is a difference between keying the frame vs. keying the symbol. Thank you again - fixed it, now it works 🙂 Do you also have a clue how to fix motionguided layers, that aren't visible in the rendered movie?

Glad to know the fades are now fixed. Well done!

I'm puzzled by the motion guided animation not exporting properly.

Maybe you can post screenshots of your timeline and export settings?

Could you reproduce it in a separate sample file easily? If it is reproducible, upload a FLA to google drive and link it here, so that people can have a look.

are you sure the "problematic" layer is not a guide layer or hidden?  ie, copy and paste a screenshot indicating the layer that's not publishing.
