I've recently downloaded adobe animate for the first time and I have been trying to use the pen tool to draw, however for some reason turning on object drawing mode makes the pen tool create a Shape instead of a Drawing Object. (So it acts exactly the same as if object drawing mode was turned off)
I checked all the other tools and confirmed that the object drawing mode functions properly for all of them.
I have tried resetting my preferences, re-installing animate, and going to earlier versions but nothing has worked.
I need to use the pen tool for a project I am working on and this glitch has made me unable to do anything.

I'm on 24.0.7 and see no issue with Object Drawing and the Pen tool.

I tried reverting it to this version but still had the same issue
I'm starting to wonder if it's an issue with windows 11 or something like that since it doesn't give me the pop up to reset my preferences when I try holding Control-Alt-Shift.

It could be an OS-specific bug, but it does not look very likely to me.
Could you describe exactly what you are doing to reproduce the behaviour, or do a screen recording and post it here?

When the pen tool is being used and object drawing mode is turned on, it doesn't output as a drawing object.
(not shown in the video but I can manually convert it into a drawing object, but this is very inconvenient since I have to do this for every single shape I draw)
But the object drawing mode works for all the other tools like the rectangle tool.

Thanks for the video!
Now I can see that this is clearly unwanted behaviour, and it looks like a bug, which could be OS-related as I, too, am on Windows 10.
If you want to make sure that the 'preferences' are reset, go to 'config' and delete all its content, while Animate is closed.
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Adobe\Animate 2024\en_US\Configuration
There is also one more place where it stores customization data. Delete that too:
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Animate\2024
Start Animate and try again.
You can also try Animate 2023 as well, if it is still available in CC.
I have no other ideas.

Just tried this, didn't work unfortunately.
I also noticed another thing with the pen tool, when I try to close the bezier curve with the pen it doesn't show the circle in the bottom right of the cursor when object drawing mode is active, you can see this in the video if it means anything significant.

Just updated animate, problem is still there but it gave me an error message that said
"Unable to multiply transform. GDI status: ^1"
Not sure if this is related to the issue

There are a few threads here, on the forum, about the GDI status: ^1 error.
If you search, you will see them.
One suggested solution is via Windows Task Manager. Several people claim that it has helped them get rid of the error.
I'd be curious to know if the two are related, so, please, if you find out something, update this thread.
Thank you!
