"Bulged" or Fish-Eye Text

Community Beginner ,
Jan 04, 2023 Jan 04, 2023

Hello!

I was wondering if it was possible to apply a Fish-Eye or "Bulge" effect to Text, or at least a Symbol, in Animate.

I'm doing this to create a CRT-like screen for a project I'm working on. Find attatched an image to better describe the sort of effect I'm after. Thanks!

I'll assume you want it animated? Timeline animation or using actionScript like Kglad mentioned?

A few more questions. See attached short video. Can your text be broken apart until vectors? Are you okay with frame-by-frame animation?
Another way (in the screenshot PNG) is to simply scale each letter differently to fake the "bulging". This way can be tweened with easing but merely implies Perspective.

here's a sample of what you can do with the displacementmapfilter.

https://www.kglad.com/Files/forums/displacementmapfilter.mp4

p.s. you can't do anything with meaningful interactivity with timeline animation. ie, the user is not going to be able to drag the lens.

i remember being amazed at what the displacementmapfilter could do and the quality and performance are actually better than it appears in the mp4.

it is very cool, but it's a struggle to get it to work in an intuitive way.
