"smart" bucket tool for open shapes?

New Here ,
Apr 04, 2018 Apr 04, 2018

I hope someone can help me with this.

I'm animating a 12 i/s animation on Animate CC, where every frame is drawn by hand separatly.

I would like to use the bucket tool to fill the figures in one of my layers, to distinguish it from the background.

But! The shape's outlines are full of gaps. Is there any kind of "Smart Bucket Tool" parameter that can ignore gaps in non-closed shapes? It could be customized to consider, for example, that lines that are less than 50 pixels apart are connected.

Or is there any other fast-workflow solution?

Finding and filling every 1-pixel gap on my 4000+ images would take me an eternity. I can't believe Adobe didn't think of something to solve that problem.

Thank you so much!

You're essentially asking for human-level image recognition from a paint bucket.

That being said, this might get you part way there:

  • Draw a box around your figure.
  • Using the bucket tool, fill the space inside the box, but outside the figure.
  • Then using the Brush tool, in Paint Inside mode, paint the inside of the figure.

UPDATE: Alright, sorry guys, I'm really an amateur here. Just discovered the Gap size parameter.
Still wondering how I can make things faster, because my shapes are complexe and full of inner lines. I just want my character to have a plain green color. No shading or differentiation between its inner shapes.

Is there a way to only consider the outline of the whole shape, instead of every inner shape separatly?

Thanks!

Anis

That helps a lot, thanks! Exaclty what I needed.

Now, if there is one more step to take it: is there any way to do this on numerous frames simultaneously? Because it would still be very time consuming to follow these three steps on 4000 images...

Thanks for your valuable help

Hire a colorist.
