basically, I rotated the torso slightly on every frame, but only the torso shows onion skin, although everything else is linked to it through armature/rigging. I need all body parts to show onion skin, please help.

Are the other layers locked? If so, unlock them or the onion skin won't show up for them.

nope.
Also, I realized that when I rotated the body, only the body gets keyframed. Everything else, although moved, didnt register as a different image. But when I update it by moving/rotating the body parts, they instantly register as a different frame and shows onion skin, (even if I move them to the exact same place).I need them to auto keyframe as well, so that I can see onionskin

It will be good if you could post a screen recording, so that others can see your setup and what exactly you are doing. In this way there is a much better chance that someone would be able to guide you.

Just for clarity of terminology: You are using Parented Layers, not Armature.
Do not rely on the Auto Keyframe function. Make a vertical selection across all the layers of your character and hit F6 on the keyboard or the button in the timeline, if you prefer.
Think of the keyframes as poses. Always create vertically aligned keys for all your body parts across all layers.

The onion skin is only showing the torso's previous frames because it's the only keyframe inside that custom range, the rest of the layers don't have keyframes at that point and so it only shows the extended frames of their last keyframes.
Try adding keys like Nick suggested, you can quickly select a frame column by double clicking the playhead.
