Static text disappearing

I'm creating a sceen in Animate that has several different bits of text scattered in different places around the screen. It's a mockup of a website tool, to give you an idea. I had planned to put all text elements on one keyframe. None of them touch one another so that seemed reasonable. I made 3 or 4 static text boxes with no issues - was able to change size and color on each. However, when I tried to add the next one, it would LOOK like it was going to work, i.e., I could type my text and it looked normal - but when I clicked the move tool, the text was gone. I tried this several times with different combinations but always reached a place where I couldn't add a new static text element. I CAN create a new layer and put the text there, but I'm wondering about best practices. Just seems like if I need to add 15 bits of text, I shouldn't have to create 15 different layers. Am I missing something? Or is this a bug? Designed this way on purpose? There's no animation - I haven't tried turning any of the static text bits into symbols. Maybe that would help. Mostly just wondering what the best solution is for this kind of issue.

Yes, sorry. Selection tool. I'm more used to Photoshop where the shortcut for that tool is "V" (for moVe), so I think of it that way. But yes - I usually just switch to that tool to enter text. Is there a better way to do that?

you mean you switch to the selection tool to move text, and to enter text you use the text tool, correct?

if so, don't use a shortcut to move the text to text (after entering the text) to determine if your shortcut is the problem.

No - I'm just trying to enter the text. Can't do it with Enter because that creates a new row in the text. So I just click the Select tool when I'm finishing writing my text. I'm not using a shortcut.
