Symbols not playing

Hello,

so in Adobe Animate, I am following along with a simple tutorial online on combining shape and motion tweens.

The setup is this:

  1. Box on the stage
  2. Convert to symbol
  3. Add curves to box
  4. Add frames up to f20 and create shape tween
  5. Add shape hints to four corners
  6. Add parallel shape hints on one end
  7. At the second Keyframe, move those hints along the shape (thus creating a simple wiggling animation that plays fine)
  8. Back out to scene, add frames up to f60 and now press play: nothing changes

I found an old thread that suggest switching the symbol type from movie clip to image, however that has not worked.

Pressing "Enter" is the main issue, "Ctrl" + "Enter" is fine.

I would appreciate any help,

Cheers,

Rury

You have to change the type of the instance on the stage, not in the library.

if you're trying to use a shape tween:

add an object (eg, rectangle) to frame 1

add a keyframe to frame 20

change the objects shape (using your mouse, for example) in frame 20

between frame 1 and 20, right click > add shape tween

test.

Movieclip symbols don't play when scrubbing the timeline in the IDE. Graphic symbols do.

Graphic symbols have a "Looping" property that can be set to Loop, Play Once, or Single Frame.

kglad - Inside "Edit Symbol" view it works perfectly, and if the animation is directly on the stage, it's perfectly happy.

ClayUUID - I saw that in a similar thread, but converting the Symbol type to "Graphic" didn't seem to do anything. I tried to locate the "Looping" option in the Properties panel, however it wasn't visible. Does the Symbol have to be made a "Graphic" from the start or should it happily switch?

Spot on, thought that changing in the library would have a knock on effect on all related items (Kinda like in After Effects). Switched the specific instance and it worked perfectly.
