TextFields VS breaking text down into shapes

What are the pros and cons of breaking your read-only text down into shapes? Does using shapes slightly increase the filesize? Does using shapes offer any kind of performance increase over TextFields?

the only reason to use shapes is because you want to use some sort of transform that doesn't work with text.
