Dimming of nested symbols as I click deeper--not working?

As I use Adobe Animate CC, it seems the symbols outside of the one I'm clicking deeper into (to edit) don't dim out--so the symbol isn't isolated so i can't tell what I'm editing.

Flash used to work this way automatically--is there something I'm doing wrong? or need to click a button to activate this?

Signed--confuses and frustrated

Frank

thanks

Is your View set to Anti Alias Text? If it's set to Full you see full color, if it's set to Anti Alias Text you'll only see dimmed colors.
