Flash Pro 8 - create shape tween

New Here ,
Jan 21, 2018 Jan 21, 2018

Hi. My daughter has started learning Flash (CS5) at school but was ill for some lessons and the teacher has been unhelpful in catching up. I have downloaded Flash 8 as the only thing I could find as the older version she is on at school would have been good. The instructions are very clear and match what i have found on the internet for the newer version yet the option to 'create shape tween' when right clicking on the timeline isn't there. I can find more complicated ways to do it but it is causing my daughter a lot of stress that she can't follow the instructions.

Any ideas why this is different? Thanks

I found this video, showing how Shape tween was done in Flash 8:

macromedia flash 8 tutorial - making shapes change (shape tween) - YouTube

You can leave the sound off, it's just music!

i don't remember if flash 8 has the capability for shape tweens.  if you click "insert" at the top menu is "shape tween" listed?

even if it's grayed out, it's doable.  if it's not listed it's not doable (with flash 8).

Thanks for your reply. It isn't there as an option but I am wondering if this is because I am on a trial? Instructions on the internet for flash 8 match what my daughter has for the older version so I think it should be possible. I attempted to buy it to see if that resolved it but it took me to a monthly payment for creative cloud instead. Not sure how that compares.

trials have 100% functionality.  they are just time limited.

if you don't see even a grayed-out option, flash 8 doesn't have shape tween capabilities.

Another possibility is that you are using Object drawing mode, or you have created a graphic or movieclip. Try selecting what you drew and do a Break Apart (command-b, control-b on Windows). Do that before adding the later frame and keyframe. Then try the right-click.

Thanks to Colin for replying too. I tried control b but it didn't change anything

Yeah, I remember shape tweens being horribly abused back in the Flash 5 days. Probably even longer ago than that. Now I kind of want to track down the FutureSplash manual to see if it supported them.

Hard to remember exactly but there's a good chance Shape Tweens were around back during Flash 8 but not available on right-click. Try selecting the shape and then using the INSERT menu option. Let me know if it's there.

The video I gave shows it to be in the properties panel. It could be in Insert too.

Ok, i'm now pretty sure, after some research, you could right click over the KEYFRAME in the timeline to see the Shape Tween option. Make sure the keyframe has raw vector shape in it and not a shape converted to a symbol. make sure there are at least 2 keyframes also.
