Layer Depth inside symbols

Hello everyone.
I have a chacacter turnaround and I was wondering if layer depth can be used inside the turnaround symbol? I'm looking to bring down the number of layers in the build and layer depth would help.

The implemenation of Layer Depth is incomplete and only available on the main timeline, which basically makes it quite pointless.

What a bizarre decision to make it work only on the main timeline!
Who's brilliant idea was that. Totally agree, what is the point unless it works everywhere.
Weirdly when clicking into a symbol with layers, the layer depth window displays all the layers inside it perfectly. Nothing is selectable unfortunately... so i think the intention was to make it work within symbols but they hit a technical snag.
