Question about motion tween

Morning - just starting out on Animtae CC and was wondering if it was possible to motion tween a symbol which is parented to something else? I can't see the motion path when the thing is parented, so can't edit it. At least I think that's what the issue is - I did try unparenting and the path appeared. Any advice?

double click the parent.child and you should see the parent's timeline where you can tween and otherwise edit the child.
