Retina optimised images look jagged on standard screen

We have had ads built for us in Animate with the images being optimised for retina resolution. They look perfect on a retina screen, but when they are viewed on a standard definition screen they get 'jagged' edges - especially in high contrast areas/edges.

Is this normal, or is there something that can be done to alleviate this?

TIA
