Symbol shaking

Hi, dear community.

Today I first faced such a problem. When I create classic tween, the symbols begin shaking. I tried copying the first frame and pasting it at the end of the scene, but that doesn't help. How can I fix it?

Hi Kate,

Here is an updated version of the file.

I quickly scaled up and re-registered the symbols.

Potentially one of the problems is that they were created way too small. Even though Animate is vector-based it needs pixels and because of all the roundings, it is better to create characters larger.

Hi gekatarina,

First, the good news... it isn't you!  Now, the bad news.  This happens to my classic tweens as well, and it's super-frustrating.  I suspect it is a bug.  This type of thing didn't happen on older versions of Adobe Flash CS (i.e., before they named it Adobe Animate).  If one moves the Alpha slider back-and-forth, it also moves the MC's center point around, which further messes with motion tweens and ruins the motion.

I wish I had a solution.  Anyone from Adobe, could you please chime-in?  I'd love to see this fixed as well.  Thank you!

@avtutorials

Hi mate,

We have recently reported some of these Transformation point bugs to the dev team, so hopefully there will be improvements in this area in AA21.

Hi mate,

Great looking character!

Not sure if toward the end of the demo you were wondering why the lower arm was not rotating, but I noticed that rotation had switched to 'none' instead of 'auto' in Properties.

Now on the main question: There is a lot of rounding (values and calculations) going on in Animate. It happens in Flash too, but was possibly controlled better.

If your symbols are heavily scaled, if your outer container is heavily scaled and if its Registration Point is way off, these roundings seem to multiply and you get very unpleasant results, like what you experience in the video.

I would suggest you re-register your symbols and reset scaling so that it is close to 100% and see if that improves the situation.

I have written a couple of lengthy articles on character rigging and symbol registration and would like to offer you the links here, since I believe you would be able to benefit from reading them.

http://flash-powertools.com/understanding-symbol-registration/

http://flash-powertools.com/character-rigging-for-flash-animation/

Also, you may be interested in checking out the Smart Magnet Rigging and the other tools.

Also, if you are inclined to upload your file somewhere and post a link to it, I'd be willing to look into it to see if there is a way to minimise the shaking. If you are worried to post in a public forum, you can email me using the address in the contact page on our site.

Hope this reply gives you some direction in which to search for improvement.

Hello Nick!
Thank you for such a detailed answer and for the articles.
I created this character 4 years ago, and now my students are working with it. One of them sent me a file with this bug. It seems to me that the problem was solved when I copied the symbols to a new scene and reorganized the comp, several of my friends checked the new file and the bug disappeared, but now the student writes to me again that she still has this problem.

Comparing a file with a bug where there is a shaking and a new file where this problem is fixed. Below you can find both files:

The very first bug file I posted here: https://we.tl/t-p90IKsDvgF
and here is a new file, where it seems to me that there is no longer a bug: https://we.tl/t-PPbTowAGJm

And today I received another solution: new symbols solve the problem.

Well... this solution in the video will remove the rotation, so yeah, all the shaking will disappear until you rotate again.

But the trouble is that you will also end up with very messy bounding boxes if you just break apart and create new symbols or if you nest two levels deep.

So it's a solution to the shaking, but will create complications with animation.

Don't install it over your 19.2.1 though. Install separately because you might not like the changes.

The issue manifests itself at the end of tween spans when a symbol instance is a little skewed and a little rotated.

It is nearly non-existent in the attached file.

Hope it helps!

ps. Your work is amazing! You're very good and very talented! Wow!

pps. Still, check out the article on character rigging and grab a couple of the sample rigs that I've made.

There are things that you can improve when you set up your characters for animation.

Nick! Just wow!! 🙂
Thanks a lot for your explanation.
You can’t imagine how you are on time! As I said, I work with students now, and tomorrow we will talk about Animate extensions. I checked your work recently but never use it before  (but I mention Flanimate tools it in my article for students already 😉
Mostly I work with studio rigs or with frame-by-frame animation and use scripts for this purpose. But your work looks very impressive and really high quality.
Thanks again for your time and work! I hope one day I can help you somehow 🙂
And now I will go read your articles!

Hi again, Kate!

I'm glad we got to speak, because your student had this issue 🙂

Yeah, we've been developing the tools and the site with resources for nearly 10 years now. We started the project with my friend Vlad at a time when, like you, I was teaching at an animation college in Sydney. We wanted to make Flash more animator-friendly and also describe good studio practices so that everyone can improve at their own pace.

Later I moved to Tasmania, so not teaching actively any more, but frequent these forums and we have the online platform so in a way students are now from all over the word 🙂

Good luck to your students and all the best to you!

Never hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Have fun!
