Why does Animate 2020 always open full screen?

Is there a way to make Animate remember what the window size was when I closed it last time?

I have a large screen and when it opens maximized I have to rearrange everything so I can work after I resize it....

Adobe probably thinks everyone is working off an IMAX Theater screen.

Animate should always open to whatever the last-used workspace was. You shouldn't have to manually rearrange anything. At worst you occasionally have to Reset a workspace when the windows don't restore correctly.

A quick test with a bunch of versions that I have here shows that:

15.2 and 18 open the way you closed them, i.e. if you have shrunk the window and have a few floating panels upon close, this is exactly the layout you get when you start again.

19.2.1 and 20.0.1 behave exactly as the OP stated - always open maximised.

I believe that this has something to do with the slow to load and annoying mandatory start screen that cannot be disabled any more, which they introduced in 19 and redesigned in 20.

Thanks for your answer - yes it is wierd how they force you into something no one wants and then make it mandatory.

I am in and out of several Adobe product dozens of times a week - some several times a day - and apart from the time it akes for them to open then they add this!  - Grrrr
